Modern guitars (1986 and later)

This page has some of my more recent guitars. That is guitars made in 1986 or later. For now, I have on here Fender Stratocasters made in Japan, Mexico and the US.

Affter each tax season, I treat myself by doing a project guitar. I did not need another surf green Strat. But when I came across a deal on a surf green Fender body, I grabbed it for this year's post-tax project.

The picture above is someone's attempt at a Tom DeLonge Strat. I bought it for the surf green body. I was pleasantly surprised to find a 50s reissue neck. Great feeling neck. Vintage V profile and a 7 1/4 inch fretboard radius. The neck had a great feel to it. This guitar had a slightly darker sound than some of my Strats (a surprise for the maple fretboard). So I decided to go with some pickups that would accenuate that tone.

The prior owner had messed up the holes for the tuning pegs by drilling them out my hand.  The black hardware was all cheap, low quality junk. Since I had to replace the hardware, I decided to go with gold to make this surf green Strat a little different from the others. I replaced that Duncan Design pickup (made by who knows who) with a Fender 57/62 at the neck position. I put a Fender Custom Shop Fat 50s at the mid (reverse wound) and at the bridge. Put in some decent CTS pots. The bridge is from a Fender Deluxe that has the 2 7/32 inch mounting and 2 1/16 inch string spacing. That lines up the strings better along the neck. Great sounding guitar now.

The picture belww shows the completed project.
